Free termly webinars for teachers seeking to engage their pupils. A space for peers to share experiences and in a collaborative, supportive atmosphere that helps colleagues effectively engage pupils with additional needs in instrumental and curriculum music lessons.

Vibration, Sensation and Improvisation: Music-making for Pupils with Complex Needs

A full-day in-person training day on music-making for pupils with complex needs led by Rosie Rushton. We will explore the concept of musical play, improvisation, using music to support elements of the Engagement Model,  as well as assessment and development frameworks.

This training is supported by MEHEM and is free and open by all across the UK. It is designed for instrumental tutors, classroom teachers and TAs that work with pupils with PMLD.

Striking the Right Note: A free webinar

OfstedMEHEM is hosting a free webinar with Ofsted's Christopher Stevens – HMI National Lead for Music, discussing the key findings of Ofsted's recent music subject report from September 2023. There will also be a Q&A session at the end of the webinar.

This webinar is open to teachers, music leads, heads of music, and school leaders from East Midlands schools.

Inclusive Instrumental Teaching: What is it and how do we do it?

A full-day, in-person training designed to support instrumental tutors working in both mainstream and specialist settings. We will share the theory and practice of inclusive instrumental teaching, including warm-ups, creative activities, communication skills, addressing challenging behaviours, and signposting to tried and tested resources and technology.

This training is supported by MEHEM and is free and open by all across the UK. it is designed for instrumental and vocal teachers who teach in whole classe, small group and one-to-one settings.

Inclusion Leads and Music Development Plans: Specialist approaches for specialist settings

As part of our New Directions in Inclusive Music series with Music Mark, Dr. Ally Daubney will explore how Music Development plans can form the foundation of a school’s music offer, including appropriate curricula, ensembles and the development of staff skill and confidence. This session will be of particular interest to Inclusion Leads.

Making music with pupils with SEMH/D: Pedagogy and practice

A full day of in-person training for music educators on engaging pupils with SEMH/D. Led by Dr. Phil Mullen, it will explore session structure, songwriting techniques, effective music technology use, and strategies for working with challenging behavior in both mainstream and specialist settings.

This training is supported by MEHEM and is free and open by all across the UK. it is designed for instrumental tutors, classroom teachers and TAs working in both mainstream and special schools, and Alternative Provision.
