Resource Balloon

A comprehensive resource for everyone making music in inclusive settings – six sections of resources created in response to requests from instrumental tutors and classroom teachers. We focus on areas of practice that are often underserved elsewhere.

Our resources are grounded in the Social Model of Disability. This model emphasises the imperative to build all aspects of the musical experience around the needs, interests, and abilities of individual learners.

This is a living resource...

If you have something to add that would complement our resources, want to request something, or want to tell us if something has stopped working, please get in touch!

About UpRising

UpRising seeks to create a more equitable offer for pupils with additional needs across the UK. We work in mainstream schools, special education settings, and Alternative Provision. Our work is driven by a dedicated team of teachers, instrumental tutors, and music hub Inclusion Leads.

Since 2020, we have trained over 900 teachers and launched the award-winning UpRising Balloon resource platform. We created the UpRising Inclusive Choir and published curriculum-design guidance for special schools. Our pioneering projects continue to bring together disabled and non-disabled young musicians, and we're excited to have launched our new programme in 2025 – UpRising360.
