Keynote: Do we teach out Creative Art Creatively?

The keynote adress is delivered by YolanDa Brown OBE – a double MOBO Award-winning saxophonist, broadcaster, and philanthropist, renowned for her fusion of reggae, jazz, and soul. She has collaborated with artists like The Temptations and Jools Holland, and was awarded an OBE in 2023 for services to music, education, and broadcasting.

Gary Griffiths from Music Mark will deliver a update on national developments in Music Education. Music Mark is the UK’s national subject association for music education, supporting and advocating for high-quality music learning in schools through training, resources, and policy influence.

Inclusive Progression Routes into the Music Industry

KS3-5 & SEND

In this workshop, Inspire Youth Arts will share their approaches to engaging young people in inclusive music programs that support progression into the music industry. Focused on accessible pathways, the session will demonstrate how young people in mainstream education, Special Schools, and SEND settings can develop their musical abilities.


Through the Able Orchestra project, which supports individuals who are physically and/or learning disabled and/or neurodivergent, delegates will learn about effective progression routes into music making.


The workshop will also highlight success stories from the Inspire Youth Arts Singer Songwriter Academy and other initiatives, with contributions from the Able Orchestra creative team and young leaders who will share their firsthand experiences.

Measuring Musicality – Creative approaches to assessment in Primary Music

A thriving primary music curriculum is built on creative and practical activities, but assessing progress in such a dynamic subject can be challenging. This workshop explores a range of subtle yet effective assessment strategies to help educators monitor and support musical growth across the primary key stages.


Through practical examples, we will identify key indicators of progress in listening, responding, singing, playing, and composing, as well as measuring success in performance. You'll gain valuable insights into how assessment can inform and enhance future teaching and learning in your school.
